Access the BBC's rich archive of moving images with the BBC Motion Gallery
For the first time the BBC's archive of moving images is available online from the BBC Motion Gallery. Over 30,000 clips are available, spanning 70 years, which are ready for download for educational use.
Footage has been derived from the BBC's collection of clips and a number of additional archives, both broadcast and more niche collections. These include:
- ABC (Australian Broadcasting Company)
- CBS News, CCTV (China Central Television)
- Huntley film archive
- Hy Gardner (American interviews from 1950 - 1970)
- Index Stockshots Core Collection
- Japan Broadcasting Corporation, Nippon Hoso Kyokai (Japan)
- Nugus / Martin (history from 1896)
- Rapido (music), Ripcurl (surfing and lifestyle)
- Save Our Seas (HD footage of the ocean)
- The Princes Trust
- The Urban Freestyler (football skills)
The JISC Collections licence for this resource allows staff and students to to search, download, edit and use footage for a variety of uses including student assignments and projects, showreels, resumes, competition entries, presentations, course packs. Virtual Learning Environments and deposit in learning and teaching repositories such as JORUM.
This resource is useful for a variety of subject and course areas including agriculture, area studies, biology, business studies, built environment, chemistry, cultural studies, defence studies, earth science, education studies, engineering, environmental science, health sciences, history, journalism, leisure and tourism, media production, media studies, medicine, natural history, physical sciences, politics, sociology, sports studies, technology, visual arts, war and zoology.
