What is a Peppercorn payment?
We are often approached for an explanation of peppercorn payments and what this means for institutions. A 'peppercorn payment' is a legal device that ensures there is consideration in a contract and that as a result the contract is valid - further information can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peppercorn_(legal)
It is very unlikely that JISC Collections will demand a peppercorn from your institution during the life of an agreement, but it is important to note that despite this being the only payment required, the responsibilities on all sides contained within that agreement are as serious as ever.
If you are unsure about anything in the licence please refer to our Guide to the Model Licence.
If you require any further assistance then please contact the Collections Helpdesk at subscriptionshelp@jisc.ac.uk or on 01993 880044.
