The development of the JISC Usage Statistics Portal service (JUSP) is now well underway.
Over the last 3 months, work has concentrated on the establishment of a production-strength environment. The user interface has also been redesigned to better accommodate the large number of reports and options for display.
The service is registered with the UK Access Management Federation and Shibboleth configured to allow different levels of access using institutional affiliation – JISC Collections can see everything, participating institutions can see their own statistics and others can see an anonymised version.
The JUSP database has been loaded with all data received (2007, 2008, 2009 & partial 2010).and anonymised data generated.
Investigations into SUSHI have begun, and client code has been developed for use with statistics from Springer and OUP. Elsevier will follow. The code will be generic, rather than be publisher-specific, to enable it to work with any SUSHI target.
JUSP will offer support for SUSHI, so that institutions can harvest their combined usage statistics from one place, rather than multiple locations.
We have drawn up formal letters of participation to ensure all parties are clear about their responsibilities. Five institutions are currently participating, but this figure will soon be doubled. Watch this space!
