Q: You’re just back from a holiday in France. Do you think if we said: "Can we have a lower price cap" in French, we would get a better response from our publishers in these challenging times?

A: I think we are all having to learn the new language of the age of austerity

Q: Seriously, how was France and did you indulge yourself with fine cuisine and wine?

A: I’m pretty sure the lorry is loading-up the backup stock as I type.

Q: The last quarter of the year is a busy one for JISC Collections and NESLi2. What are your priorities over the next couple of months?

A: Priorities for my agreements are right pricing in the current climate and ensuring Requests for Payment are ready before the change in VAT.

Q: You did a degree in sports science. Are you are frustrated athlete at heart or perhaps a coach?

A: I know my Tae Kwon Do instructor would laugh heartily if I called myself an 'athlete'.

Q: Do you ever tell publishers how proficient you are in the art of Tae Kwon Do before you start negotiating?

A: I usually save dropping being a 'black belt' into the conversation for when negotiations get tricky.

Q: I know Christmas will come around soon enough now. Kindle or iPad from Santa for you this year?

A: IPads look amazing (and pricy), but when it comes to 'books' it’s a Kindle in my stocking please Santa!

Q: Is your glass generally half full or half empty and why?

A: On most days I would say half full, I like to be cheery it’s much more fun! J
