We are pleased to announce that our landmark initiative in the schools sector – JISC Collections for Schools – is continuing despite the closure of Becta and the premature loss of funding.
We have reached an agreement with Joyce Martin (Programme Director for the initiative since it was launched in 2008) to run JISC Collections for Schools (JCS) as a chargeable service.
This means that schools will continue to benefit from savings of up to 80% on a range of high quality online subscription resources by paying a small fee for the service and their membership of JISC Collections.
Paul Kelly, Subscriptions Manager for JCS for the last 18 months, will continue in this role, and Sally Pelling-Deeves has joined as Subscriptions Support Officer. The team will be based at new offices in Oxford.
The continuation of the service has been warmly welcomed. New subscriptions, as well as renewals, are already coming in. Worcestershire Local Authority has just taken out a 2-year subscription to Credo Reference for all of its High Schools. Learning and Teaching Scotland has renewed subscriptions to Oxford Reference Online and Grove Art Online for all Scottish secondary schools. Additional subscriptions from schools participating in buying groups in Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and London are also being processed by the team.
