JISC Content – promoting awareness and usage

Over the last decade JISC and JISC Collections have licensed and digitised a large number of collections across all subject areas which are now available free of charge to the UK academic community.

However, it has been a challenge to present these collections in a way that promotes awareness and usage.  To address this issue, we have been developing a new online gateway designed to provide a user-friendly and engaging introduction to these digital collections and to inform academics, students, researchers and librarians about the wealth of resources available to them.

Brief descriptions are provided for each collection.  Subject, title and keyword searches – plus direct links to the collections themselves – are available to help users locate and access relevant collections with speed and ease.  Other features such as interactive theme maps and timelines are also on offer.

The collections presented on this new site currently include material licensed by JISC Collections and material digitised via the two phases of the Digitisation Programme - the Enriching Digital Resources strand, and the first phase of the JISC – NEH (National Endowment for Humanities) Transatlantic work.

The website has just been launched, and we would welcome feedback to inform future developments.
