We have launched a new service for public and museum libraries in England and Scotland. The Digital Library Licensing Service is funded by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) for the English component and by the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC) for the Scottish component. The service aims to provide public libraries, archives, and museum libraries with high quality digital content, discounted prices, and generous licensing terms.
The Digital Library Licensing Service for England - free consultation workshops in January/February
Commencing in November 2009 and managed by Ben Taplin, this project aims to licence digital content for public and museum libraries across England. Our first step is to hold workshops across England to find out what public and museum librarians want from digital content in terms of resources and licensing.
The regional workshops are free and will take place in January and February.
Using information gained from the workshops, we will prepare an invitation to tender for new resources to be offered in addition to those already available to public libraries in England through the MLA's existing Reference Online initiative. The invitation to tender will be published in Spring 2010.
