In response to community requirements Jisc is working with a small number of publishers on the group purchasing initiative which aims to support institutions with a more efficient, coordinated and transparent approach to the acquisition of digital archival collections. The program leverages institutions’ collective purchasing power to lower costs and enable wider take up of digital archives.
Institutions will be able to select from a broad range of resources, and pledge their interest until mid-July. The final cost on each resource will be calculated based on the collective number of pledges received from institutions across any of the publisher products on offer, resulting in significant savings than offered previously. In addition to reducing costs for new materials, this program will allow HEIs to trial databases with their users for up to ninety days at no cost. Providers will provide detailed usage statistics collected during the trials so HEIs can make data-driven purchase decisions, expanding their collections with materials that have demonstrated value.
