The e-Books for FE project got off to an excellent start and there are now over 360 colleges taking advantage of free access to the 3,000 e-books currently available.
Last year, in view of this success, JISC provided funding to procure additional e-textbooks to extend the range of subjects and levels covered in the collection. In May 2010, 18 e-textbooks in key vocational areas, including titles to support the new diploma were added to the collection.

This year, thanks to funding from the Department for Business Innovation and Skills, an additional pool of 60 e-books will be made available to FE colleges free of charge from the end of April 2011, under unlimited concurrent access. These new titles will be purchased using a user-driven basis, meaning that we will only pays for titles that are used. The titles will be capped at a set level to ensure that funds aren’t exhausted prematurely on a handful of books.
We would like to thank all the colleges that completed the consultation to pick the titles from the 250 e-books we had on offer. We had a remarkable response and the 19,000 marks we received will establish the final selection of 60 titles made available in late April 2011.
