Carolyn Alderson, Acting Head of Licensing

Carolyn Alderson joined JISC Collections in April 2004 as Content Negotiator. She has been in the serials information industry since 1988, working previously for Content Complete Ltd, Swets and Zeitlinger and The Faxon Company. She has a wide-ranging experience of negotiating pricing and licensing terms with publishers globally and for different sectors. Carolyn’s current responsibilities include client account management and the negotiation of pricing and licence terms for NESLi2, SHEDL and IReL consortia, global pharmaceutical companies and NHS libraries. She is a member of the UKSG's Main Committee and Education Sub-Committee and holds an MBA from Warwick University.

Liam Earney, Project Leader Shared Electronic Resource Management Support Service

Liam has worked for JISC Collections since 2003 as a Collections Manager and more recently Collections Team Manager. As Head of Licensing and Customer Service he has responsibility for ensuring that all of JISC Collections content negotiations are undertaken in a timely and effective manner that deliver benefits and provide the best possible service to all JISC Collections member institutions.

Lorraine Estelle, Chief Executive Officer

Lorraine Estelle is Chief Executive of JISC Collections, the organisation that manages the national procurement and licensing of a broad array of intellectual property for academic libraries. JISC Collections collaborates with its library members and the publishing community to undertake research that drives the development of licensing and business models in line with user needs, innovative technology and the future of digital content. Recent projects in this area have included the National e-books observatory, the e-books for FE project.

She is a member of the Knowledge Exchange Licensing Group, which looks at the issues of digital licensing and procurement at multi-national level and she is an active participant in the ICOLC conferences. She is a member of the EDINA Management Board. She is also co-editor of Insights: the UKSG journal.

Prior to joining JISC Collections she worked in the publishing industry, firstly in trade book publishing and then in the area of children’s educational books and multimedia.

Scott Gibbens, JISC Collections Service Representative

Scott Gibbens is a qualified librarian and has worked in University, College and NHS libraries. Working in the NHS Scott was responsible for setting up and managing the first national NHS collection of databases and electronic journals. Prior to joining JISC Collections Scott worked for the library suppliers Coutts and John Smiths, principally promoting their eBook service. Scott is looking forward to getting out an about meeting librarians in this new role.

Fay Gooding, Helpdesk Manager

Before joining JISC Collections Fay spent 6 years managing the subscriptions and helpdesk for an extreme sports magazine and had a support role in accounts and advertising. Fay joined JISC Collections in June 2008 as subscriptions and helpdesk administrator for the JISC Collections Help Desk, a role which includes the processing of new and renewed orders, invoicing and resolving queries from institutes and publishers.

Paul Harwood, Deputy CEO

Paul trained as a librarian but has spent most of his working life in the commercial sector in a variety of roles. Between 1995-2003 he was Managing Director of Swets in the UK and in 2003, jointly established Content Complete Ltd, managing the business, as Co-Director, until the sale of the Company to JISC Collections in 2009. Paul served on the UKSG committee for over 10 years, the last three as Chair. As Deputy CEO, Paul has specific responsibility for business development at JISC Collections.

Catherine John, Licensing Manager

When she joined JISC Collections in 2007, Catherine brought with her several years' experience selling rights and negotiating contracts within academic and literary publishing.

Catherine negotiates licenses with a wide range of agencies, publishers and other content providers to supply online resources that support learning and research across many disciplines.

Victoria Legge, Licensing Manager

Victoria graduated from Glamorgan University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Science. She joined JISC Collections June 2008 following time spent working in customer service/sales side of supply management and a role in academic sales in the publishing industry. Responsibilities include the negotiation of pricing and licensing terms, along with administration for NESLi2, pharmaceutical companies and NHS consortia. She has been involved in several projects.

Caroline MacKay, Licensing Manager

Caroline joined JISC Collections as a Content Negotiator in August 2006. Caroline has been in the subscriptions industry since 1990 holding a variety of positions at Blackwell's Information Services and Swets Information Services. Since 2001 she has been actively involved in package deals, initially as NESLI Co-ordinator and later as part of Swets' Consortia and Multi-Site Services team. Her responsibilites include the negotiation of prices and licence terms for academic consortia and pharmaceutical companies.

Caren Milloy, Head of Projects

Caren joined JISC Collections in 2003 and has negotiated a wide range of agreements for digital content and managed several projects including the JISC national e-books observatory. As Head of Projects manages an extensive portfolio of projects that research changes in user behaviours, pilot new business models, create new tools and develop new consortia licensing models. An essential part of this role is to ensure that the projects are delivered in a professional manner and that the recommendations and findings are embedded into the core licensing work of JISC Collections and are communicated to the scholarly sector. She is currently managing OAPEN-UK, a project that will pilot open access business models for scholarly monographs.

Brian Mitchell, Head of Web Services

Brian has worked for JISC Collections since 2003 as a Marketing Manager and is now project managing the new JISC Collections website. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and has a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing. He has over ten years experience of marketing in the education and publishing sectors.

Richard Savory, Licensing Manager

Richard started his career at the British Library and subsequently worked for several intermediaries including Swets, Blackwell Information Services, WH Everett and Baker & Taylor Books. More recently he has managed sales to Asia, the Middle East and Europe for the Royal Society of Chemistry and Taylor & Francis; these roles involved the negotiation of license agreements with library consortia in more than 20 countries.

Ade Soremekun, Head of Finance

Ade started working for JISC Collections in January 2011 as Head of Finance, having previously held the post of Head of Management Accounts at the Royal College of Surgeons (Eng). As Head of Finance he has responsibility for ensuring that all of JISC Collections financial affairs are recorded and reported in a timely and structured manner. This includes providing relevant data to users of financial information both within the company, including all JISC Collections member institutions and to external and regulatory users.

Ben Taplin, Digital Library Licensing Service Project Manager

Ben joined JISC Collections as a Collections Manager in the autumn of 2008. He brings over 10 years' experience of working in university and museum libraries, and is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. He is currently Project Manager for the Digital Library Licensing Service, which will make online content available to public and museum libraries.

Anna Vernon, E-Books for FE Project Manager / Licensing Manager

Anna joined JISC Collections in 2007, as a Collections Manager, having worked at the Victoria and Albert Museum and Association of Illustrators. As the e-books for FE Project Manager she works with colleges to ensure that the c.3000 e-books freely available through the project can be used to their full potential. As a Licensing Manager she undertakes content negotiations on behalf of Higher and Further institutions.

Mark Williams, UK Access Management Federation Operator Manager

Mark joined JISC in 2007 following 5 years at Intute and moved to the collections team in 2009. Before that he had over 10 years of teaching experience including further education. As federation operator manager Mark works with publishers and institutions involved with the UK Access Management Federation.

Kate Lister, Helpdesk Manager

Kate graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1991 with a BA Combined Honours Degree in French and German and has since been employed in a variety of roles including spells in retail management, tourism and administrative support.

Kate joined Content Complete (now acquired by JISC Collections) in April 2006 and has been Manager of the JISC Collections Subscriptions Service and Help Desk since August 2008.
