This resource is compliant with the OpenURL standard as well as SFX, and MetaLib. XML output is to be released shortly.

Federated Searching

All Dialog DataStar databases are available though the SOAP API. Please see: http://datastarapi.dialog.com.

Metadata Standards

All databases support individual thesauri where available.

Search Options

All databases can be searched individually or across databases. Some search features:

  • Saved Search
  • Email Alerts
  • On screen limits
  • "Repeat" in another database
  • "Remove duplicates"
  • "Split" sets out
  • Deliver results by email
  • Delete individual or whole set histories
  • Limit by date
  • Choice of searching from any database field(s), allowing searching by journal name, author, etc.
  • Browsing of thesauri terms
  • Access to subsets such as journals and publication types
  • Individual user options including highlighting of terms
  • Easy navigation
  • Email tracker tool for all alerts and deliveries including ability to re-send

Post Search Options

  • Choice of output styles or custom output, including choice of fields
  • Direct export to Refman, ProCite, EndNote
  • Output in .pdf with automatic title page and hyperlinked table of contents
  • Output in .rtf for MS Word
  • Output in tagged format
  • Output to 'WebCharts' for MS Excel
  • Output in XML shortly
  • Choice of delivery format in email alerts, including .pdf, .rtf, and shortly .ris for Refman, ProCite, EndNote.
  • Ability to set copyright clearance for wider distribution
  • Sorting of results sets prior to output

Usage Statistics

Usage statistics are provided within the support site: http://resource.dialog.com. They include number of logins, database searches and document views defined by the admin username, so they are anonymous. Currently investigating COUNTER.

Authentication

Authentication via the UK Access Management Federation will be available from 2010. Currently, authentication is via Athens.
